Moldovan Speaker Igor Grosu Urges Merit‑Based EU Accession at Belgrade Conference

On 7 July 2026, Igor Grosu, the speaker of Moldova’s Parliament, addressed the inaugural conference of parliamentary presidents from EU candidate states in Belgrade, Serbia. Organized by Serbian National Assembly president Ana Brnabić and Ukrainian Rada speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, the meeting brought together leaders from Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine and other candidate countries to discuss common challenges in European integration.

Grosu stressed that “the accession process must remain based on merit; each country must do its homework.” He reiterated Moldova’s commitment to the reform agenda and its desire to continue progress toward EU membership.

The conference also served as a platform for bilateral talks between Grosu and Stefanchuk, underscoring ongoing parliamentary cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine.
