Moldovan Police clarify death of Ukrainian citizen near border

Moldovan police have issued clarifications regarding the death of a 27-year-old Ukrainian citizen found in a field near the village of Clocușna, Ocnița district. The body was discovered on July 13, 2024, approximately 250 meters from the Ukrainian border.

Authorities stated that the individual was likely attempting to cross the border illegally between June 21 and June 24, 2024. While forensic examinations did not identify gunshot wounds or other bodily injuries, the exact cause of death could not be determined due to the advanced state of decomposition.

The police response follows claims made by Deputy Vasile Costiuc, who suggested in a social media video that the man had been shot in the head and that authorities were covering up the incident. The General Inspectorate of Police maintains that no evidence of a crime was found and that there are no grounds to continue criminal proceedings.
