Moldova's MAN party demands early elections and boycotts prime‑minister consultations

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu resigned on 3 July 2026 and President Maia Sandu accepted his resignation. Following the resignation, President Sandu launched political consultations with parliamentary factions to nominate a new premier. Ion Ceban, leader of the National Alternative Movement (MAN), announced that the party will boycott these consultations, calling the process “formal and lacking transparency.” Ceban also demanded a public report on the government’s performance over the past eight months and called for all key state institutions – the Intelligence and Security Service, National Anticorruption Center, Anti‑Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and Prosecutor General’s Office – to appear before Parliament.

MAN deputy Gaik Vartanean urged an urgent extraordinary session of Parliament to audit the interim prime minister’s activity, noting that no report had been presented to Parliament or citizens for eight months. The party also adopted a declaration calling for early parliamentary and presidential elections, describing Moldova as “captured by a single party” and demanding a return to responsible governance.

The combined actions reflect MAN’s push for greater parliamentary oversight, transparency, and a renewed electoral mandate amid a political crisis.
