Moldova's Ministry of Culture outlines export rules for movable cultural heritage
The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova explained that movable cultural heritage objects may be exported, either temporarily or permanently, only after a specialist expert assessment and the issuance of the required permits by the competent authorities. Export procedures involve obtaining export certificates, presenting provenance documents, expert reports and any additional approvals required under the Law on the Protection of National Movable Cultural Heritage and related regulations.
The Service for Registration and Circulation of Movable Cultural Goods, subordinate to the Ministry, monitors the circulation of such items, carries out expert evaluations and issues the necessary documentation for export. Responsibility for insurance, guarding and conservation of the objects rests with the legal owner or the institution that administers them. The Ministry stated it does not possess statistics on criminal or contraventional cases involving these goods, nor on seizures or condition issues; that information is handled by the prosecutorial authorities.
