Moldova's Parliament to Review 'Restart in Education' School Reform

The Moldovan Parliament is set to examine next week a draft law known as the “Restart in Education” reform. The proposal would replace the existing 35 regional and municipal education directorates with a smaller number of territorial agencies directly subordinate to the Ministry of Education, a change opposed by opposition parties.

At the same time, misinformation about the reform has spread online, alleging that the policy will force mixed‑grade classrooms, eliminate teachers and shut schools. Officials have clarified that the new methodology applies only to very small schools that cannot form separate classes, does not mandate merging of grades, and retains teachers' contracts and salaries. Ion Ceban, a political figure, has criticised the reform, but fact‑checking shows the claims are unfounded.
