Moldova's Triumph Arch to become state‑owned property under the Ministry of Culture

The Moldovan government is preparing a decree that will add the Triumph Arch in central Chișinău and its surrounding land to the official register of state‑owned immovable assets. The amendment will place the monument under the administration of the Ministry of Culture, with the Agency for Public Property responsible for recording the ownership details.

A commission has already been set up to delimit the site, and the draft decree is undergoing public consultation. The arch, part of the historic “Holy Gates and Sanctuary” complex, has previously been excluded from the state‑owned property list, prompting calls for clarification of its legal status.

If approved, the change will formalise the arch’s status as public heritage and allow the Ministry of Culture to manage its preservation and any restoration work.
