Mole Fair organizers report massive losses due to Xochimilco road closures

Organizers of the 49th National Mole Fair in Milpa Alta are reporting significant economic losses due to road closures in the San Gregorio Atlapulco community of Xochimilco. Luis Alvarado Retana, founder of the fair and head of the Oversight Council, stated that the event has seen only 10 percent of its typical economic impact, resulting in a loss of between 13 and 15 million pesos.

More than 400 restaurants and approximately 600 participants, including artisans and producers from states such as Oaxaca, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Jalisco, and Nayarit, are being affected. Organizers warned that if the road closures continue and the fair cannot operate normally this week, the event faces a potential bankruptcy of 60 million pesos. They have called upon the Xochimilco mayor, Circe Camacho, to intervene and resolve the conflict.
