Molfetta celebrates local culinary traditions and agricultural heritage

Molfetta is hosting two distinct events focused on preserving and promoting local culinary traditions.

The 32nd edition of the Sagra del Calzone Molfettese is scheduled for September 19, 2026, in Piazza Garibaldi. Organized by the Pro Loco di Molfetta, the festival features various versions of the traditional local calzone, including options with fish, tuna, and gluten-free varieties. The event emphasizes sustainability through the use of eco-compatible materials and an anti-waste initiative allowing participants to use 'doggy bags' for leftovers. The evening will include live music from Pop Machine and activities for children.

Additionally, a new association has been established to promote and protect 'Cicoria Puntarelle Molfettese,' a local agricultural product. The association's headquarters will be inaugurated on September 15 in Molfetta. The initiative aims to use this traditional chicory as a tool to tell the story of the region's roots and identity. The inauguration involves local municipal leaders and representatives from regional agricultural organizations such as Coldiretti, Confagricoltura, and CIA.
