Italian police intensify traffic and speed enforcement operations

Italian law enforcement agencies have announced intensified traffic safety operations across various regions. In Sicily, the Polizia Stradale is conducting speed checks on the A/18 Messina-Catania and A/20 Messina-Palermo motorways from August 24 to August 30, 2026, targeting high-accident areas. Penalties for speeding include fines and license point deductions, with more severe sanctions for exceeding limits by more than 60 km/h.

In Messina, the Municipal Police are utilizing Autovelox devices for speed monitoring and Scout devices to detect parking violations in several urban locations. Meanwhile, in Molfetta, local police have increased inspections of electric micromobility vehicles, such as e-scooters and e-bikes, to ensure pedestrian safety. Recent data from July and August 2026 shows a high rate of sanctions for lack of insurance and missing identification tags.
