Molfetta: Young green sea turtle found dead on shoreline

A young green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) was found dead on the shoreline in Molfetta, Italy. The specimen, measuring approximately 30 centimeters in carapace length and weighing about 3 kilograms, showed visible injuries to its front fin and neck area.

Authorities noted a cloacal prolapse, which may be consistent with entanglement in fishing nets. The carcass is being transferred to the Zooprophylactic Institute of Foggia for necropsy to determine the exact cause of death. This discovery follows another similar incident in the region within the last month, raising concerns regarding the impact of fishing activities on marine fauna in the Adriatic Sea.
