Puglia receives Moody’s rating upgrade to Baa2

Moody’s Ratings has upgraded the credit rating of the Puglia region to Baa2 with a stable outlook. Regional Budget Assessor Sebastiano Leo attributed the upgrade to fiscal rigor, the elimination of the regional deficit, and the effective use of EU funds to drive growth without increasing debt.

Simultaneously, discussions regarding water infrastructure are intensifying. A proposed agreement between the Puglia and Molise regions aims to facilitate water transfer via the Liscione-Finocchito pipeline. While officials describe the project as a strategic step for water solidarity, some regional councilors have raised concerns regarding the lack of confirmed funding and the need for greater transparency regarding the actual volumes of water available and the management of the project.

In other regional developments, Puglia has launched ‘Puglia Moltiplica,’ an industrial action plan with 360 million euros in public funds designed to stimulate up to 2.9 billion euros in private investment through various financial instruments. Additionally, Sicily has secured over 151 million euros in state resources for five strategic water works, including technological upgrades to purification plants and network digitalization.
