Mollie acquires GoCardless to create European fintech platform
Dutch fintech Mollie has completed the acquisition of GoCardless, creating a unified European payments and financial services platform. The combined entity serves more than 350,000 businesses across more than 30 markets.
The integration aims to reduce financial fragmentation by offering a single platform that combines Mollie’s card and local payment solutions with GoCardless’s ‘Pay by Bank’ technology, which is active in 38 countries. This allows businesses to manage collections, accounts, and financing through a single partner, moving away from the need for multiple providers for direct debits, cards, and liquidity management.
Koen Köppen, CEO of Mollie, will lead the new entity, while GoCardless will continue to operate as ‘GoCardless, a Mollie company’ under the leadership of co-founder Hiroki Takeuchi. The companies reported strong financial positions leading into the deal, with Mollie achieving EBITDA profitability in 2024 and GoCardless reporting positive EBITDA for the first quarter of 2025.
