Mollie to build banking and intelligence layer for AI agents
Dutch payment company Mollie has announced plans to develop a dedicated intelligence platform and banking layer designed specifically for AI agents. The initiative aims to allow clients to deploy autonomous AI agents to operate directly on the company’s payment and banking rails.
To execute this project, Mollie is seeking to recruit a founding team or acquire early-stage startups through an acqui-hire model. The company has pledged up to €50 million in equity to the team responsible for the project, with the stock being released in tiers based on the achievement of specific operational and commercial milestones.
This new unit will operate independently from Mollie’s existing operations, maintaining full control over its own architecture, roadmap, and go-to-market strategy. The project seeks to provide the necessary financial infrastructure to support machine-led transactions as software increasingly migrates toward autonomous AI agents.
