Molslinjen takes over ferry route to Sweden's Koster Islands
Molslinjen has taken over the ferry route between Strömstad and the Koster Islands in Sweden, operating under the name ‘Kosterlinjen’. Although the Norwegian company Torghatten originally won the tender from Västtrafik, Torghatten has subcontracted the operation to Molslinjen. Both companies are owned by Nordic Ferry Infrastructure.
The route serves the car-free Koster Islands, which are popular tourist destinations. While Västtrafik will continue to manage ticket sales, schedules, and customer service as part of Sweden’s public transport system, Molslinjen will handle the actual operations.
Initially, the service will be provided by the vessels ‘Kostersund’ and ‘Kosterbris’, which run on biofuel. Starting in early 2027, the route is expected to be serviced by two new fully electric ferries capable of carrying at least 255 passengers and 30 bicycles.
