Molten Salt Solutions raises $7M to scale lithium isotope production

Molten Salt Solutions (MSS), a New Mexico-based company, has secured $7 million in an oversubscribed seed financing round to scale the production of enriched lithium isotopes. The funding was led by Dolby Family Ventures, with participation from Vanedge Capital Partners, Alumni Ventures, Gaingels, True Ventures, and Future Ventures.

The company focuses on lithium-6 and lithium-7, isotopes essential for next-generation nuclear technologies. Lithium-6 is required for fusion energy systems to produce tritium, while lithium-7 is used in advanced molten salt fission reactors. MSS aims to address a domestic supply chain gap, as the United States currently lacks commercial-scale production of these isotopes.

The new capital will facilitate the transition from laboratory-validated technology to pilot-scale production, support the expansion of technical and operations teams, and fulfill existing customer agreements. Founded by specialists with experience at Los Alamos National Laboratory, MSS claims its proprietary enrichment platform is approximately 100 times more efficient than legacy methods.
