Molteno primary school named after astrophysicist Margherita Hack
The primary school in Molteno has been officially named after the renowned astrophysicist Margherita Hack. During a ceremony attended by students, families, teachers, and local authorities, a commemorative plaque was unveiled and blessed at the school entrance on Via Corti.
The dedication follows a multi-step process that began with a municipal proposal and a STEM-focused educational project during the 2024/2025 school year. This project highlighted five emblematic women in scientific research. The final decision was supported by a referendum held on March 8, 2025, International Women's Day, and received approval from the prefecture and the local school office.
As part of the Living Land project, students also contributed to the school's appearance by repainting the entrance with a quote attributed to Hack. The ceremony honored the legacy of the scientist, who was the first woman in Italy to lead an astronomical observatory.
