Moluccan Heritage Celebrations Held in The Hague and Leiden

A pop‑up museum marking 75 years of the Moluccan community opened on 14 August in The Hague. Mayor Jan van Zanen inaugurated the free exhibition, which is housed in six sea‑containers on the Lange Voorhout and runs until 23 August. The display presents historic photographs, portraits and personal family stories that trace the community’s presence in the city from before the 1951 arrival of former KNIL soldiers.

Two weeks later, the Pasar Leiden festival took place at the Wereldmuseum in Leiden on 29–30 August. Over 80 stalls offered Indonesian, Moluccan and Papuan foods, books, crafts and musical performances, including the Dutch‑Indonesian band Nusantara Beat. Workshops such as wood‑carving, Javanese dance and ikat weaving, as well as a kids’ corner, were available. Admission was free for children up to 12, with tickets for adults ranging from €5 to €7.50.
