Religious celebrations mark the Feast of the Assumption across the region

Various religious and local community celebrations are scheduled across Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia to mark the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Velika Gospa).

In Croatia, numerous Marian shrines including Krasno, Oštarija, Vukovina, Aljmaš, and Šumanovac are preparing extensive programs. These include triduum prayers, processions, and masses led by various bishops. Local municipalities such as Skrad and Brinje are also combining religious festivities with community days, featuring music, gastronomy, and sports.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Crkvica parish in Zenica recently celebrated its 150th anniversary with a central mass led by Archbishop Tomo Vukšić. Additionally, Večernji list is distributing a special prayer book dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

In Serbia, the Orthodox tradition for the feast on August 28th includes specific fasting rules. This year, because the holiday falls on a Friday, believers are advised to observe fasting through the feast day, with specific dietary allowances such as fish and oil-based dishes.
