MoMA to host major Eva Hesse retrospective in 2027
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has announced a major retrospective of German-American artist Eva Hesse, titled ‘Eva Hesse: Wild Space, 1957–1970’. The exhibition is scheduled to run from May 30 to September 25, 2027.
This marks the largest museum presentation of Hesse’s work in the United States in over two decades, following a 2002 retrospective at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition will feature more than 150 works, aiming to highlight the relationship between her drawings, paintings, and sculptures.
Curator Lanka Tattersall noted that the show intends to demonstrate the ‘cross-pollination’ between Hesse’s works on paper and her sculptures. Hesse, who fled Nazi Germany as a child and settled in New York, was known for challenging the conventions of Minimalism before her death in 1970.
