Mombasa banker convicted of attempted murder after stabbing former lover

A Mombasa court has convicted banker Hannington Muthoka of attempted murder following a stabbing attack on his former partner, Elizabeth Shigari Bana. The conviction follows an incident on September 25, 2023, in Port Reitz, Changamwe.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Muthoka lured Bana under the guise of discussing their relationship, taking her shopping and to a club in Bamburi. When Bana declined his attempts to rekindle their romance and requested to be taken home to Mikindani, Muthoka instead drove her to a secluded area in Bahati.

Evidence presented in court indicated that Muthoka demanded sex, which Bana refused. After she attempted to flee the vehicle, Muthoka chased and stabbed her three times in the back, leaving a knife blade lodged in her body. Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo found that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
