Moms for Liberty CEO accuses teachers unions of political agenda focus

Tina Descovich, CEO of Moms for Liberty, has accused teachers unions, including the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, of using member dues to advance a political agenda rather than improving the education system.

Descovich claims that union resolutions focus on divisive issues such as gender ideologies and political activism—including resolutions to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)—rather than academic proficiency. She stated that unions are attempting to "turn [children] into radical activists at a young age before they can form their own political opinions."

The critique follows Department of Education data from the 2025 National Assessment of Educational Progress, which showed that 32% of high school seniors are not proficient in reading and nearly half struggle with basic mathematics.
