Mona Gohara advises washing face after exercise to prevent acne
Clinical professor of dermatology Mona Gohara explains that the only reason to cleanse the face before a workout is when makeup or heavy sunscreen is worn, as sweat can mix with these products and clog pores. For most people, washing the face after exercising is essential; sweat left on the skin combines with oil, bacteria and dead cells, increasing the risk of clogged pores and irritation.
Over‑cleansing can strip natural moisture, so after washing, a moisturizer should be applied to restore the skin barrier. If immediate washing is not possible, rinsing with warm water, using gentle micellar water or alcohol‑free wipes can help remove sweat and debris until a proper cleanse can be done.
