Mona Keijzer sparks controversy at NSC party congress

Mona Keijzer, an independent member of the Dutch House of Representatives, spoke at a New Social Contract (NSC) party congress, advocating for unity among those with conservative worldviews. Her appearance caused significant internal friction within the NSC; many attendees left the hall during her speech, and the NSC youth movement, JSC, criticized the decision to provide a platform for what they termed “populist-right ideology.”

The controversy led Europarliamentarian Dirk Gotink to resign his membership in the NSC, citing Keijzer’s skeptical stance toward the European Union. Keijzer, who previously served as deputy prime minister in the Schoof cabinet for the BBB before splitting from the party, is currently developing a new social-conservative movement known as Project 2029.

While Keijzer noted shared values with NSC founder Pieter Omtzigt regarding governance and social security, acting NSC chairman Ronald de Bruin clarified that formal cooperation with Keijzer is not currently on the table. He described her visit as an opportunity for the party to reflect on external perspectives.
