Mona Neubaur to receive Josef-Neuberger Medal for combating antisemitism
The Jewish Community of Düsseldorf has announced that Mona Neubaur, the Deputy Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, will be awarded the Josef-Neuberger Medal. The award ceremony is scheduled for October 29.
The medal recognizes Neubaur for her long-standing commitment to Jewish life and her active stance against antisemitism. The community highlighted her personal presence and concrete actions, particularly following the Hamas attacks in Israel in October 2023. Oded Horowitz, chairman of the board, described her as ‘not only a reliable partner, but a true friend of the Jewish Community of Düsseldorf.’
Michel Friedman is set to deliver the laudatory speech at the synagogue. The Josef-Neuberger Medal has been awarded since 1991 to non-Jewish individuals or institutions that have made significant contributions to the Jewish community. Previous recipients include former Minister-President Johannes Rau and Armin Laschet.
