Monaco Basketball Club License Decision Delayed to July 27

The French Basketball Federation’s Appeals Committee has postponed the final decision on Monaco’s participation in the Betclic ELITE (France’s top professional league) until July 27, giving the club additional time to provide stronger financial guarantees.

Monaco’s professional basketball section carries roughly €24 million in debt. A rescue plan led by Helen Holdings – a company linked to former NBA player Jamal Massey – aims to inject about €10 million and complete a takeover of the team. The club must now demonstrate sufficient financial viability to avoid exclusion from the Pro A tier. "The fact that we were given this extension is a positive sign," said Monaco’s lawyer Jean le Serf.

If the appeal is approved, Monaco will remain in the French top‑flight for the 2026‑27 season; a negative ruling could relegate the team to lower divisions.
