Monaco basketball club targets historic quadruple amid financial turmoil
Monaco’s Roca Team qualified for the Betclic Elite final for a fifth consecutive appearance despite a severe financial crisis and the refusal of star Mike James to play over unpaid wages. The club has already secured the Leaders Cup, the Coupe de France and the SuperCoupe this season and now aims to complete an unprecedented quadruple by adding the Elite title.
Coach Sergii Gladyr said the squad must raise its performance, stating “Pour gagner le titre, il faut faire beaucoup mieux”. Player Juhann Begarin echoed the ambition: “dans l'histoire du basket, peu d'équipes l'ont fait, on va tout donner”. The final is scheduled for 14 June, with the opponent to be decided between Paris and Cholet.
