Thierry Lacoste indicted in Monaco corruption investigation

Thierry Lacoste, a long-time advisor and childhood friend of Prince Albert II of Monaco, has been indicted by Monégasque authorities. The charges include criminal conspiracy, active corruption of a national public official in an organized group, passive influence peddling, and money laundering.

The legal proceedings are tied to investigations surrounding the failed Esplanade des Pêcheurs real estate project, which was intended to feature residential buildings, a museum, and Formula 1 facilities. The case has escalated into a broader conflict involving allegations of influence-peddling and corruption within the principality.

Lacoste's law firm has denounced the indictment as “a shame” based on “unfounded accusations,” claiming the Monégasque justice system is being instrumentalized to serve powerful financial interests. The investigation also touches upon the “G4,” a group of four former associates of the Prince accused of embezzlement and attempting to exert control over the principality.
