Monaco Grand Prix to host first-ever F1 Sprint in 2027
The Monaco Grand Prix will introduce its first-ever Formula 1 Sprint race in 2027. Scheduled for June 3–6 as Round 8 of the 24-race World Championship, the event will feature an expanded competitive format.
Under the new structure, the weekend will include one practice session, two qualifying sessions, and two races. The Sprint Qualifying will take place on Friday, followed by the Sprint race on Saturday, and the main Grand Prix on Sunday. This change is part of a broader expansion of the Formula 1 Sprint programme, which is set to increase from six weekends in 2026 to ten.
The introduction of the Sprint format in Monaco presents unique challenges, including reduced time for teams to perfect car setups due to the single practice session and the inherent difficulty of overtaking on the narrow Monte-Carlo street circuit.
