Monaco rules out Eurovision 2027 participation

The government of the Principality of Monaco has confirmed that it will not take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, which will be staged in Bulgaria. Officials said the country will focus on other cultural projects and that the high financial cost of entry – including production, staging and participation fees – is beyond the budget of its new public broadcaster.

TVMONACO, the state‑owned radio‑television service launched in 2023, became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union in March 2024, giving Monaco the right to compete. However, the broadcaster’s limited resources and strict fiscal constraints led the cultural affairs department to decide against sending an entry.

Monaco’s last appearance in the contest was in 2006 in Athens, following a brief return from 2004 to 2006. The principality previously won the competition in 1971 with Séverine’s “Un banc, un arbre, une rue.” The 2027 edition will proceed without Monaco after more than two decades of absence.
