Monaco's Princely Family visits Les Baux-de-Provence

The Monegasque Princely Family, including Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene, Hereditary Prince Jacques, and Princess Gabriella, conducted a historical visit to Les Baux-de-Provence on September 5, 2026.

The visit commemorates the long-standing relationship between the House of Grimaldi and the Provençal village, rooted in the 17th-century Treaty of Péronne. This treaty led to the lordship of Les Baux being elevated to a marquisate in 1642 and assigned to Hercule Grimaldi. Since then, the title of Marquis des Baux has been traditionally held by the heir to the Monegasque throne.

During the ceremony at the ancient castle, Prince Jacques, who was granted the title at birth in 2014, officially received the keys to the village and a sword. The family was welcomed by Mayor Anne Poniatowski to celebrate the renewed dynastic and historical ties between the principality and the commune.
