Monaghan councillor Séamus Coyle has died

Long-serving Fianna Fáil councillor Séamus Coyle has died at the age of 56. A prominent figure in Monaghan politics, Coyle was the current Cathaoirleach of the Ballybay/Clones Municipal District.

First elected to the Monaghan County Council in 2004, Coyle served for 22 years. During his tenure, he served two terms as the County Monaghan’s First Citizen, holding the position of Cathaoirleach in 2011-12 and 2019-20. He was noted for being a frequent poll topper, most recently in 2024.

Monaghan County Council and local representatives have expressed deep sadness over his passing, describing him as a dedicated public servant and a highly respected member of the community. The Council is opening books of condolences at its headquarters and municipal district offices in Clones and Carrickmacross.
