Monahan appointed Saskatchewan Poet Laureate
Monahan, a writer from Prince Albert, has been appointed as the Saskatchewan Poet Laureate. Managed by the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild, the program aims to celebrate the province's people, spirit, and land through literature.
Monahan intends to use her position to promote creative writing and poetry in remote, rural, and northern communities, moving beyond the province's two largest cities. Her goal is to bring poetry directly to the public, including work with marginalized groups, newcomers, and residents in hospitals and care homes.
An accomplished author of five poetry collections and a chapbook, Monahan has extensive experience as a writer-in-residence and writer-on-the-wards. She plans to begin her outreach with activities such as an open mic reading in Meadow Lake.
