Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe opens Guadalupense Holy Year

The Monasterio de Santa María de Guadalupe has officially inaugurated the Guadalupense Holy Year (Año Santo Guadalupense) 2026-2027. The opening ceremony, held on August 30, 2026, was presided over by Francisco Cerro Chaves, the Archbishop of Toledo and Primate of Spain.

During the ceremony, Archbishop Cerro Chaves opened the Holy Door using his crosier. He identified three central themes for the jubilee period: gratitude, humility, and trust. These principles align with the pastoral letter ‘Tu Madre te busca’, a joint document signed by the bishops of Toledo, Mérida-Badajoz, Coria-Cáceres, and Plasencia.

The Holy Year is celebrated whenever September 6 coincides with a Sunday, as established by Pope Saint Pius X. This specific jubilee period is scheduled to continue until September 8, 2027. The event saw participation from various regional bishops, clergy, Franciscan community members, and civil authorities from Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha.
