Monclova generates 10 million pesos from regional congress

The North-East Regional Congress of Alcoholics Anonymous generated an estimated economic impact of more than 10 million pesos in Monclova. The event drew approximately 3,000 visitors, significantly exceeding the initial expectation of fewer than 2,000 attendees.

The influx of visitors from states including Zacatecas, Durango, Tamaulipas, and Nuevo León caused a shortage of available lodging, as the city's approximately 1,200 hotel rooms reached full capacity. Armando de la Garza Gaytán, the tourism commissioner for the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) and Secretary of the Association of Hotels and Lodging in Coahuila, noted that the surge benefited multiple sectors beyond hospitality, including restaurants, pharmacies, convenience stores, and transportation services.

Local suppliers also saw increased demand for food and supplies, creating a broader economic chain reaction. Despite the lack of a formal convention center, officials stated that the event demonstrated Monclova's capacity to host large-scale interstate meetings through its existing hotel infrastructure and competitive service pricing.
