Monclova honors industrial legacy and local figures

The community of Monclova, Coahuila, is observing several significant local milestones and remembrances.

On the 51st anniversary of his death, the city honors Harold R. Pape, the American engineer and founder of Altos Hornos de México. Pape, who moved from Indiana to Monclova in the 1940s, is credited with transforming the region into an industrial steel hub and supporting local education, health, and culture through the Pape Foundation.

In the educational sector, the community is mourning the passing of Josefina Posada Ortiz at age 80. A dedicated teacher and former school inspector, Posada Ortiz held various roles in the regional education system and served as a councilwoman for education during a municipal administration.

Additionally, 17-year-old Jesús Ángel Espinosa Terrazas, originally from Monclova, has gained recognition for his academic achievements. He was selected from approximately 3,000 students to participate in a NASA-related program at the University of Texas, where he worked on a project concerning Saturn and its moons.
