Monclova Rehab Center Closed Over Safety Violations, Inmates Report Abuse

Health authorities in Monclova, Coahuila, ordered the closure of a rehabilitation center after an inspection uncovered severe irregularities. Inspectors found the facility overcrowded with more than 29 residents in a space designed for about 24, lacking proper sanitation, operating without required permits, and using an improvised outdoor kitchen with open fire. The center also had no medical supervisor or clinical records. All residents were released to their families and the building was sealed.

Six former residents have now filed formal complaints alleging physical abuse, including being restrained with ropes and a case where a detainee lost a finger while attempting to escape. The state prosecutor’s office opened an investigation to determine responsibility for the alleged mistreatment. No arrests have been made, and the legal status of the center’s owners remains pending as authorities continue to review the case.
