Samsung Electronics posts record Q2 2026 semiconductor profit amid AI demand
Samsung Electronics reported a record net profit of 71.62 trillion won (about $49.6 bn) for the second quarter of 2026, a year‑on‑year increase of roughly 1,300 %. Operating profit in the semiconductor (DS) division surged to 89.2 trillion won, about 250 times the level a year earlier, while sales in the division reached a record 127.5 trillion won, up 130 % YoY. The group’s total revenue rose to 171.5 trillion won, also up 130 %.
The profit explosion was driven by a global surge in demand for AI‑related memory and high‑bandwidth chips, which pushed RAM prices to unprecedented levels. Samsung warned that the gap between supply and demand for memory chips is expected to widen further in 2027, potentially tightening the market. In contrast, the smartphone and consumer‑electronics division posted an operating loss of about 800 billion won, reflecting higher component costs.
The company also announced long‑term supply agreements worth more than $200 bn with Broadcom through 2030 and said it will continue to adapt its DRAM and NAND product portfolios to meet AI‑driven server demand.
