Mondragone agricultural land seized over abandoned asbestos

Provincial Police in Caserta have seized an agricultural field in Mondragone after discovering abandoned asbestos-cement material. The waste, consisting of slabs and fragments, is in an advanced state of deterioration, with some material having crumbled into dust, posing a risk of fiber dispersion into the environment.

The area has been cordoned off and sealed to prevent further movement of the material. Investigators are working to determine the origin of the asbestos and the circumstances of its abandonment. While the land is co-owned by four individuals, authorities noted that ownership does not automatically imply responsibility for the illegal dumping.

The Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere has been informed. Relevant authorities have also been notified to begin the necessary safety measures and subsequent environmental remediation of the site.
