MoneyGram launches stablecoin-backed Visa card in Colombia

MoneyGram has launched its first stablecoin-backed Visa card, initially releasing it as a virtual product for users in Colombia. The card allows customers to connect their dollar-linked remittance balances directly to retail payments. Users can access the card through Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, with a physical version planned for release later this year as the company expands into new markets.

Developed in partnership with infrastructure provider Rain, the product follows a similar move by competitor Western Union, which recently launched its own stablecoin-based solution. This trend highlights the growing role of digital dollar-linked assets in the international remittance market.

Colombia represents a significant market for this technology, having received approximately $13.1 billion in remittances in 2025, a 10.6% increase from the previous year. The card offers a way for recipients to retain funds in stablecoins and convert only what is necessary for specific transactions, rather than converting the entire remittance into local currency immediately.
