Monferrato railway line undergoes cultural and tourist revitalization
The historic Asti–Chivasso railway line in Italy is being revitalized through the ‘LocoMonferrato’ project. This initiative aims to promote cultural, educational, and tourist value by combining sustainable mobility with the heritage of the Monferrato region.
Organized by several local municipalities and supported by the Fondazione FS ‘Binari senza tempo’ program, the project focuses on slow tourism. It utilizes the recently reactivated route to connect local villages with historical railway architecture and scenic landscapes. The 2026 program includes eight scheduled events featuring historic trains, local food fairs, and truffle festivals, with departures from locations including Torino Porta Nuova, Torino Lingotto, Moncalieri, and Asti.
