Mong women in Phu Tho preserve heritage through brocade

In the Pa Co commune of Phu Tho province, women from the Mong ethnic community are preserving their cultural heritage through the production of traditional brightly coloured brocade fabrics. This craft, which involves spinning thread, weaving cloth, and intricate embroidery, is serving as both a means of cultural preservation and a tool for economic empowerment as products reach international markets.

The production process is highly meticulous, involving the harvesting and spinning of flax, followed by weaving and the application of traditional beeswax drawing techniques on linen. For many local women, such as Giang Thi Mua, the craft is a multi-generational tradition passed down through families, providing additional income while maintaining the distinct cultural identity of the Mong people.
