Monga Park to reopen in Taipei following landscape renovation
The Taipei City Government has announced the reopening of Monga Park in the Wanhua District on October 17 following a landscape improvement project centered on ‘subtraction aesthetics’ and ‘open space.’ The renovation aims to resolve previous issues with obstructed views and dead-end circulation.
Key features of the redesigned park include a ‘Wind and Rain Corridor’ featuring lightweight, translucent glass to increase natural light, and a ‘Water Plaza’ designed to recreate the historical ‘Beauty Mirroring Pool’ feng shui imagery of the nearby Longshan Temple. The project also establishes a clear visual axis that allows visitors to view the historic temple from the park’s central plaza.
A series of cultural events will take place from October 17 to November 7, including traditional concerts, local markets, and a special outdoor performance by the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre on October 24. To support the local economy, the city will distribute shopping vouchers for nearby business districts and night markets during the opening period.
