Mongaguá building explosion injures two women
An explosion occurred in a four-story residential building in the center of Mongaguá during the early hours of Wednesday. The incident, which took place around 12:34 a.m. on Avenida Campos Sales, prompted a response from the Fire Department involving four vehicles and 12 firefighters.
Two women were rescued from under the debris on the top floor of the building. They were conscious when extracted and were treated by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) before being transported to the Mongaguá Central Emergency Room.
The municipal Civil Defense has cordoned off the property as a preventive measure while awaiting a technical evaluation. Municipal engineers and technical-scientific police are expected to inspect the structure to determine its stability.
Initial reports suggest the explosion may have involved a gas cylinder, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet confirmed if a reported dispute between residents played a role in the incident.
