Mongaguá police arrest eight for AI-driven impersonation scam
Eight men were arrested in Mongaguá, on the coast of São Paulo, for operating a fraudulent center that used artificial intelligence to impersonate TV presenter Renato Ambrósio. The group used AI to simulate the presenter during fake giveaways linked to the 'Cartão de Todos' program to deceive victims.
The suspects, who traveled from Suzano in the Greater São Paulo area specifically to establish this operational base, were apprehended by the Military Police's Tactical Force following a tip-off. During the raid, some suspects attempted to flee by jumping over walls and onto neighboring roofs, but were successfully detained.
Police seized a significant amount of equipment used in the cyber and telephone scams, including 11 notebooks running fraud-related platforms, 13 smartphones, and 146 SIM cards. The suspects admitted to traveling to the coast for the sole purpose of committing fraud.
