Mongol Empire's historical impact on Islamic civilization

Historical accounts detail the complex relationship between the Mongol Empire and the Islamic world during the 13th century. During the conquest of Bukhara in 1220, Genghis Khan is reported to have addressed the local population with harsh criticisms, with some historical interpretations framing the Mongol invasion as a divine punishment for the perceived sins of the city's leaders and inhabitants.

Berke, a grandson of Genghis Khan and a ruler within the Golden Horde (the Jochi Ulus), eventually converted to Islam.
