Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh goes viral for 100kg bench press

Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh has gained significant social media attention after a video surfaced showing him participating in physical training during a visit to the 084 special forces unit in Ulaanbaatar.

During the inspection, the 58-year-old president removed his suit jacket and watch to perform 20 consecutive repetitions of a 100-kilogram bench press. The footage has led some netizens to refer to him as a ‘modern-day Genghis Khan’ due to his physical strength. Khürelsükh previously shared footage from 2017 suggesting he had successfully performed a 200-kilogram bench press.

Beyond weightlifting, the president is known for interests in boxing, skiing, horseback riding, and motocross. He also has a background in music, having previously been a guitarist in a band called ‘Anda’. While many praised his fitness, some local commentators used the event to pivot toward discussions regarding domestic economic issues such as inflation and the cost of living.
