Mongrassano shooting: Man shoots ex-partner and attempts suicide

A 30-year-old man shot his former partner and then attempted to take his own life in Mongrassano, in the province of Cosenza. Both individuals were rushed to the Annunziata Hospital in Cosenza for emergency treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred during an argument after the man attempted to reconcile with the woman. The couple had previously lived in Germany before separating; the woman had recently returned to Calabria. Following her refusal to reconcile, the dispute escalated, leading the man to fire at her before turning the weapon on himself.

The woman is currently in surgery, though medical staff do not believe her life is in immediate danger. The man is in more serious condition and is scheduled to undergo head surgery, though he is also not considered to be in critical danger. The Carabinieri are investigating the incident under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Cosenza to determine the exact dynamics and motive.
