Monika Silva Veras's body to be returned to Poland for autopsy

The Polish District Prosecutor's Office in Olsztyn has decided to repatriate the body of Monika Silva Veras from Ecuador to Poland. Silva Veras, who served as the president of the La Integridad Foundation, was found dead in her home in June. She had been active in documenting official corruption and irregularities in the Santa Elena region.

While Ecuadorian investigators have already completed an autopsy and provided documentation to Polish authorities, prosecutors have decided to conduct a second autopsy in Poland. Specialists from the Medical University of Gdańsk will perform the examination to assist in the ongoing investigation. The Polish prosecution will cover the costs of the specialized sanitary transport.

Polish authorities are maintaining close cooperation with Ecuadorian investigators through video conferences and the exchange of case materials. The Polish consul in Peru is also assisting in communications between the two nations. Preliminary findings from the Ecuadorian autopsy indicate that Silva Veras was murdered.
