Monika Zajkova criticizes electronic voting plan limited to diaspora

Monika Zajkova, leader of Macedonia's Democratic Liberal Party (PLD), called the government’s proposal to introduce electronic voting only for citizens living abroad a political contradiction. In interviews on Radio Lider, she argued that the measure creates a double standard by offering active voting rights to the diaspora while restricting passive voting rights for those residing in the country.

Zajkova also highlighted the inconsistency surrounding a recent legislative effort to ban dual citizenship for MPs. She questioned why the same rule would not apply to officials or diaspora candidates who often hold two passports, calling the overall approach "political schizophrenia." She urged that any law on dual citizenship be applied uniformly and that electronic voting, if adopted, should be available to all voters, not just those abroad.
