Monique Barbut Remains French Ecology Minister Amid Resignation Threat Over Farm Law

Monique Barbut, France's minister for the ecological transition, announced she would resign in protest against the newly adopted emergency agricultural law. The law would allow the re‑introduction, under strict conditions, of two pesticides – acetamiprid and flupyradifurone – for certain crops such as hazelnuts and beet, a move Barbut says contravenes the precaution principle.

President Emmanuel Macron refused to accept her resignation, and Barbut told Le Monde that she will stay in office “as long as I can act,” describing the stint as her “first and last” political experience. She maintains her opposition to the law’s final wording and the pesticide re‑introduction, while warning that scientific doubts about health and environmental impacts persist.
